Tasting Notes
Black plum, dark cherry, Earl Grey tea and dried herbs on the nose. The palate has robust tannins with dark sour cherry, pomegranate, citrus peel and cocoa. Overall, this complex wine is youthful, yet weighty.
Vineyard Notes
Putnam Vineyard is situated on the extreme Sonoma Coast, just 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The vines are surrounded by towering 400-year-old redwood trees on all sides and in many areas within the vineyard. The coastal
climate and the Goldridge sandy loam soils result in wines with plenty of richness along with high-toned finesse.
Production Notes
The 2017 vintage was an excellent growing year, with record rainfall in January (20+”), almost double historical average. Ideal weather through May led to very temperate flowering. The replenished groundwater aided a balanced vegetative cycle with lots of green, healthy vines. All fruit was picked before the devastating fires in October.
Winemaker Notes
Grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted and de-stemmed. They underwent a five-day cold soak followed by fermentation with daily punch-downs by hand to enhance flavor extraction.
