James MacPhail's Notes

Named for the family of foxes that inhabit this vineyard in the Green Valley region of the Russian River Valley AVA, Fox Den Vineyard typically sees moderate temperatures but heavy overnight fog, which brings out all of the luscious fruit flavors, warming spice rack, and a grounding earthiness in the resulting wine.

Tasting Notes

Notes of fresh wild strawberries, crushed red rose petals, sour cherries, and holiday spices on the nose. Freshly picked wild red raspberries, pomegranate, and clove on the palate lead into a balanced, lingering, and mouthwatering finish.

Production Notes

Grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted, and de-stemmed. They underwent a five-day cold soak followed by fermentation in French oak barrels with daily punch-downs by hand to enhance flavor extraction.

Fox Den Vineyard

Named for a family of foxes who have occupied the Smith family’s idyllic vineyard for over 50 years, Fox Den Vineyard sits on the western edge of the Russian River Valley, with ideal conditions for growing world-class Pinot Noir. We partner with three generations of Smith family members to select grapes that bring balance, maturity, and structure to our Fox Den Vineyard Pinot Noir.
