James MacPhail's Notes

Despite its name, Sunny View is a low lying site shrouded in fog overnight and through the morning during the growing season.  The result of this cooler climate is a delicately-balanced Pinot Noir, which achieves depth and concentration in ripeness while retaining acidity and verve.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of crushed Bing cherries, red plum, strawberries, wet pine needles, holiday spices and white pepper define this wine. The palate has fresh picked, ripe red plum, red fruits, forest floor, white pepper and holiday spices. The end result is a bright, balanced, medium-bodied Pinot Noir.

Production Notes

The 2017 vintage was a restorative growing year after the Russian River Valley faced long-term drought. Early season rainfall was imperative to replenish reserves. Grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted, and de-stemmed. They underwent a five-day cold soak followed by fermentation with daily punch-downs by hand to enhance flavor extraction. All grapes were picked and processed prior to the devastating wildfires in October.

Sunny View Vineyard

Sunny View Vineyard encompasses 17 acres in the heart of the Russian River Valley, in what is called the Santa Rosa Plain. Three separate vineyard blocks are planted with three of the world’s premiere Pinot Noir clones from Burgundy, France. Cool days and foggy nights ensure vines produce less fruit, causing grapes to be highly concentrated and bursting with flavor.
