James MacPhail's Notes

We first partnered with the Karren family in 2018 and are thrilled to be able to make this wine with fruit from their iconic vineyard, which benefits from meticulous care and a steadfast commitement to quality. Cool winds blowing through the Petaluma Gap cause the grapes to grow with small berries and thick skins, and the resulting wine is very special and unique. We acquire only a small amount of their fruit, so this is absolutely one to seek out and hold onto.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red in the glass, with aromas of strawberry, dark cherry, and citrus with a hint of pepper. On the palate, an elegant texture is layered with complexity including red berries, dried herbs, and citrus peel. Well-balanced with smooth tannins and measured acidity, along with a hint of earthiness.

Production Notes

Grapes were harvested by hand before undergoing a 100-day fermentation in French oak. To enhance flavor extraction, grapes were gently punched down by hand three times a day.
